What is CrossFit and is it right for me?

For anyone even remotely interested in health and fitness you can’t failed to have noticed over the last couple of years people talking about a strength and conditioning programme that is like no other. Welcome to CrossFit, a challenging new approach to training where going back to basics and understanding how your body moves is key to improve your physical well-being and cardiovascular fitness.

What is CrossFit?

The CrossFit programme stripped back is essentially where you learn and perform varied functional movements inspired by gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more all at high intensity. It’s where you quit ‘playing gym’ and exercising to tick ‘get fit’ off your to do list and become part of a training programme; where if you remain committed you will have the opportunity to chase personal excellence and develop a better mind and body through tangible physical challenges and tasks.

A CrossFit class will take you outside of your comfort zone and take you back to the classroom to learn the how's and whys of training your body. It is through this unique mindful training that you learn to move properly with patience, skill and great technique. Each day, the WOD (workout of the day) will test a different part of your functional strength or conditioning and all completely scalable based on your skill. You set your own training goals to motivate and inspire and through CrossFit’s unique tracking data you are held accountable for your own fitness journey.

How does CrossFit work at MVMT42?

At MVMT42, before you step into any class one of our expert coaches will take you through a minimum of 3 elements classes, where we go back to basics and reteach you how to move your body correctly. Once you’ve understood the basics and realigned your thought process, that’s when the fun really starts and it’s time to hit your first CrossFit class.

Your first CrossFit class will be like no other fitness class you’ve experienced before. The passion, enthusiasm and atmosphere within a class is amazing, most in part down to the eclectic mix of individuals taking part. Anyone of any age and fitness level can take part in a class so, you may find yourself training next to a 20-something muscular ‘gladiator’ or a 60-year old who’s recently recovered from knee surgery. Everyone performs the same exercises but with the movements adapted to their own personal level and needs. Whilst we can’t guarantee an easy ride (CrossFit isn’t for wimps) we can promise a fun class filled of like-minded people with lots of cheering and fist-bumping when goals are met and PB’s achieved.

  3. Do you want to have fun whilst working out?

If the answer is yes, then Crossfit IS the right class for you!

We aren’t going to lie, it’s hard work and you must be driven and committed (throughout those cold and dark winter morning and nights coming up), but what you will get in return is a passion and desire to be the best possible version of yourself you can be; as well as being part of a community that wants you to do well and will do everything in their power to help you succeed.
